The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) is a leading professional body representing more than 21,000 school, college and system leaders across the UK.

The power of association

Our members represent more than 90 per cent of secondary schools and colleges of all types, and are responsible for the education of more than four million young people.

Readers of Leader magazine are headteachers, executive heads, CEOs, deputy and assistant heads, senior teachers and their equivalents (principals, vice principals) in sixth form and further education colleges, mostly aged 30-60. Members are located throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. All members of the Principals’ Professional Council (PPC), Girls’ School Association (GSA) and Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC) are members of ASCL.

The changes in school status through academisation and free schools and the accompanying overall increase of delegation of responsibility and resources to schools, mean that ASCL members more than ever before are key decision makers in terms of school budgets and purchasing, running budgets in excess of £8 million. Leader magazine reaches and influences the decision makers of today and tomorrow and is distributed five times throughout the year to the leaders of the UK’s secondary schools and colleges and has an average circulation of over 21,000.

ASCL works to shape national education policy, provide advice and support to members and deliver first class professional development across the sector. Inspired by a vision of high quality education for all young people, ASCL aims to be the first choice professional body for all school, college and system leaders.
